Wedding Stationery Guidelines

Invitations

The invitation will be the first thing that your guests will see regarding your wedding. It will set the tone for the formality of the day and tell your guests all about the event. Make a good first impression by choosing beautiful, quality invitations to match the style or theme of your day.

Number required:
1 invitation per couple 1 invitation per family 1 invitation per single person

When to send:
Depending on whether your guests are coming from out of town or overseas you will need to send them out 8-6 weeks before the event. Your guests should receive their invitations no less than 6 weeks before the wedding.

Invitation wording:
There are many different formats depending on who is doing the inviting and the formality of the day. Whatever wording you choose, make sure you ask someone to read through it to double check it for any errors before you submit it for printing.

Reply Cards

Reply cards make it easier for your guests to reply to your invitation. They are placed into a smaller envelope and mailed to your guests together with the invitation.

Number required: 1 Reply card per invitation.

RSVP Date: The RSVP date is usually set at about 4 weeks before the wedding to allow enough time to finalise guest numbers.

Order Of Service

The Order Of Service booklets are given out to your guests. They outline the events of the day and the wedding service. Guests will often keep them as a memento of the day.

Number required:
1 per family 1 per couple 1 per single person

Place Cards

Place cards are placed at the table settings to show your guests where to sit. Coordinate your place cards with your table decorations (napkins, flowers etc.) and wedding stationery for a stylish themed look.

Number required: 1 per guest

Gift Tags/Cards

If you plan to give your guests bomboniere then you may like to use gift tags, which are coordinated with the rest of your table decorations and stationery.

Number required: 1 per gift

Menus

If your guests are going to have a choice of meals during the reception then you may like to place menus at the table settings. Sometimes the reception venue will provide the menus for you or you may prefer to use your own so that it is coordinated with the rest of your stationery.

Number required: It will depend on your budget and whether you would like to place 1 per guest or couple or table.

Thank You Cards

Thank you cards or notes are sent out to guests to thank them for their gifts.

Number required: 1 for every family, couple or person who gives you a gift.

When to send: As soon as possible after the honeymoon.

Tips

Make sure that you order extra stationery in case of errors or last minute additions to your guest list.

Ordering about 10% extra than you need is recommended.
